WINNIPEG - Winnipeg police are denying accusations that they used excessive force on protesters marking the anniversary of the Occupy movement.

One protester was arrested and taken to hospital Monday after officers moved in on a march down Portage Avenue.

Some protesters have posted comments on social media sites that say police were aggressive and used a Taser on one man who suddenly slumped as he was taken to a police cruiser.

Patrol Sgt. Wally Antoniuk says no officers deployed a Taser.

Antoniuk says police were swarmed and one protester experienced a medical problem after he shoved an officer and was being put in a cruiser.

The man, who was taken to hospital and released, faces charges of assaulting an officer and obstruction.
